Thank you for visiting my Sing-a-Thon fundraising page.
Since our inception, the Twin Cities Women’s Choir has welcomed women from all walks of life into this community. We aim to make beautiful music while building bridges among diverse communities with an emphasis on empowering the voices of women. The Choir is committed to making the choral experience accessible to women of all economic backgrounds. The choir does not impose membership fees or require purchase of concert apparel. We receive some concert funding through grants, but we rely primarily on contributions from our own singers, community, and audience. While we're committed to being self-supporting, no one is ever turned away due to lack of financial resources.
I'd like you to know that singing with the women in this amazing choir means the world to me. The current challenges in my life bring me to my knees, yet as I sing on Wednesday evenings in a neighborhood church basement, all that worry and pain melts away and my spirit soars. On one recent evening, as a storm raged outside, the lightning flashes were visible through the windows and the weather siren on the church was ringing. One could hear a murmur of concerned voices - "do we stay, do we go"? One member yelled out, "We are in a church basement, we are safe, let's sing!" What I remember singing is "Still I Rise". As I walked home in the dark with water up to my ankles, the wind swirled around me, pelting rain and making my umbrella useless. The thunder and lightning seemed to be as close as the bushes I passed. I arrived home fully drenched, with tears of joy streaming down my face, grateful for the choir and the ability to still experience my spirit "filling up and spilling over".
I am sure each of the 154 women in this choir has similar stories, yet this is a glimpse of the gratitude and joy singing in this community of women brings to me.
